This is the edge of the caldera where you can safely observe the glowing lava lake. You will sleep overnight near the rim on cots. Temperatures here stay hot, but winds often pick up. Keep your headlamp on you at all times to avoid tripping near fissures.

This 9.5-kilometer trail connects Dodom base camp to the volcano summit. You will walk across solidified, undulating lava rock for about three hours. The hike happens entirely in the dark to avoid the severe daytime heat. Wear sturdy, closed-toe hiking boots to protect your feet.
2 - 3 hoursHydrate thoroughly before the hike
Dodom is the starting point for your expedition up the volcano. Tour groups eat dinner and rest here for a few hours before ascending. Hydrate thoroughly using your provided water supply or electrolyte tablets. Rest as much as possible to prepare for the physical effort ahead.
